(03) 1) Ich befürchte, dass Sie mir nicht alle Bilder gesandt haben, die sich noch im Besitz von Ihnen oder von Ihrem dänischen VerlegerSteen Hasselbalch (1881-1952), a Danish publisher befinden, und bitte Sie dies nachzuholen. Dagegen vermag ich irgend- welche Kosten für die Bilderbeschaffung einstweilen nicht aufzuwenden.

Diese Briefe seien eine solche Fundgrube, dass die deutsche Ausgabe auf sie keinesfalls verzichten könnte.

(05) 3) Einen ganz besonderen Eindruck hat auf Professor WarnekrosKurt Warnekros (1882–1949), a German gynecologist who performed all but the first of four surgeries on Lili Elvenes; director of the Women’s Clinic in Dresden (Staatliche Frauenklinik) from 1925 to 1948 das folgende kleine Erlebnis gemacht: Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931 wurde im Garten von einer Wöchnerin angesprochen, ob sie auch ein Baby bekommen habe. Diese Frage, dass sie für eine Wöchnerin gehalten wurde, hat Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931 am allerglücklichsten gemacht. Diese feine Ergänzung empfehle ich aufzunehmen.

(06) 4) Jede Ergänzung durch Briefe wird von mir nicht nur begrüsst, sondern für unerlässlich notwendig gehalten, wobei ja die unwesent- lichen Stellen gestrichen werden können, obwohl ich mit dem Umfang nicht so ängstlich sein will. Daher begrüsse ich die von Ihnen er- wähnten Briefe, die Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931 seit 1922 an ein Familienmitglied ge- richtet hat. Also bitte : soviel Briefe hinein als irgend möglich ! Ich empfehle, auf ein Vorwort überhaupt ganz zu verzichten, da- für aber ein neues ausführliches Eingangskapitel zu schreiben, in dem der Inhalt dieser ganzen Geschichte dargestellt wird mit dem nötigen Kommentar.

(08) 6) Den Namen AndreasAndreas Sparre (fictional), modeled on Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener (b. 1882), a Danish painter würde ich vorziehen, weil der Name EinarEinar Magnus Andreas Wegener (b. 1882), a Danish painter; married to Gerda Wegener; died as Lili Elbe in Dresden, 1931 hier nicht als männlicher Vorname bekannt ist.

(09) 7) Zu den Kürzungen kann ich leider nicht beurteilen, was in der dänischen Ausgabe gekürzt ist, weil ich nicht dänisch lesen

Zum Schluss noch etwas anderes : ich erlaubte mir, Ihnen mit gleicher Post zwei Werke von höchstem Wert zu senden und zwar ein Nachlasswerk des Fürsten EulenburgPrince of Eulenburg (1847-1921), Philipp Friedrich Alexander, German diplomat und ein Erinnerungswerk des BildhauersWalter SchottWalter Schott (1861-1938), German sculptor. Beide Novitäten verdienen es, dass Sie diesen freundlichst je ein Feuilleton widmen, wenn ich im Interesse der Werke eine solche Bitte auszusprechen mir erlauben darf.

(02) I have now had a discussion with Professor WarnekrosKurt Warnekros (1882–1949), a German gynecologist who performed all but the first of four surgeries on Lili Elvenes; director of the Women’s Clinic in Dresden (Staatliche Frauenklinik) from 1925 to 1948 and I am able to conclusively comment on all questions as follows:

(03) 1) I suspect that you have not sent me all the images still in your possession or that of the Danish publisherSteen Hasselbalch (1881-1952), a Danish publisher and ask you to please do so. For the time being, however, I am unable to expend any costs for the procurement of images.

(04) 2) Professor WarnekrosKurt Warnekros (1882–1949), a German gynecologist who performed all but the first of four surgeries on Lili Elvenes; director of the Women’s Clinic in Dresden (Staatliche Frauenklinik) from 1925 to 1948 spoke of highly valuable letters, which Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931, from the clinic in DresdenMunicipal Women's Clinic (fictional and historical) is the Staatliche Frauenklinik in Dresden, directed by Professor Kurt Warnekros from 1925 to 1948.", directed towards her friend Mrs. AlatiniHélène Kann Allatini (1887-1943), friend of the Wegeners; author of Mosaiques, with a chapter on Lili Elbe in ParisParis (historical), capital of France. Those letters would be such a rich source that the German edition could under no circumstances do without them.

(05) 3) The following little incident left a particular impression on Professor WarnekrosKurt Warnekros (1882–1949), a German gynecologist who performed all but the first of four surgeries on Lili Elvenes; director of the Women’s Clinic in Dresden (Staatliche Frauenklinik) from 1925 to 1948: Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931 was approached by a woman in childbed in the garden, asking if she had had a baby as well. This question, being taken for a woman in childbed, made Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931 the happiest. I recommend including this fine addition.

(06) 4) I not only welcome every addition in the form of letters, but consider them indispensable. The unessential passages could be crossed out, although I don’t want to be so anxious in regard to the length. Hence, I welcome the letters you mentioned, those Lilli ElbeLili Elbe (fictional and historical), legal name Lili Ilse Elvenes; born Einar Wegener (1882), died in Dresden, 1931 wrote to a family member since 1922. So please: add as many letters as possible. I recommend completely forgoing a foreword, but instead to write a new, elaborate introductory chapter, describing the content of the whole story with the necessary commentary.

I strive for an elaborate psychological picture.

Finally, something else: I took the liberty, with this same mail, to send to you two works of the highest value, namely a legacy work of the Prince of EulenburgPrince of Eulenburg (1847-1921), Philipp Friedrich Alexander, German diplomat and a commemoration work of the sculptor Walter SchottWalter Schott (1861-1938), German sculptor. Both new titles merit a literary review in a newspaper or magazine, if I, in the interest of the works, may make such a request of you.
