Style Guide

  • People and Places: details can be seen on mouse-over.
  • Diary Entry - Paragraph ID or text within a paragraph
  • Letter - Paragraph ID or text within a paragraph
  • Text added in another hand: details can be seen on mouse-over.
  • Text removed: details can be seen on mouse-over.
  • The original text has idiosyncratic spelling and the regularized text can be seen on mouse-over OR missing punctuation is restored in the text and the error can be seen on mouse-over.
  • The @ symbol indicates a comment by either a project editor or translator. The comment can be seen on mouse-over of the @ symbol and the team member can be identified by their ID in the “Document Metadata”.
  • Page numbers appear in the left-hand margin when the paragraph begins on a new page; when a paragraph spans two pages, page numbers appear in brackets inline with the text.
  • Clicking on the page numbers reveals the digital facsimile of the original page (in the original language).

We have removed the hyphenation that appears in the printed text during digitization and encoding. Original hyphenation can be consulted in the facsimile images.

When paragraphs line up between the two columns, we have not repeated translator and editor notes. When the paragraphs do not line up, we have included editor notes in both places. We have prioritized readability. Page breaks may not be consistent between the translation and the transcription due to word order differences in the translations.

Team member project IDs can be seen on mouse-over of their name. These IDs are used throughout the archival texts— linking editor and translator notes to the team member responsible for the note.

(03) Ich bitte, genau so zu adressieren! Die erste Korrektur habe ich ja, - bis auf Vorwort und die paar Ein-bzw. “Hinzufügungen” gelesen; von der 2. Korrektur dagegen nur die ersten 6 Bogen. Dann setzten alle weiteren Sendungen aus. Weshalb? Hier kann ich nicht länger warten. Sie müssen mir also den Rest der 2. Korrektur an meine obige Adresse senden lassen.

(04) BrandstetterOscar Brandstetter Verlag (historical), a German publisher hatten mich in eine nette Aufregung gebracht: plötzlich schrieb man mir, die Sendung mit meinem Vorwort und der Titelei sei nicht eingetroffen, es wurde telegrafiert und telefoniert, - bis sich herausstellte, dass BrandstetterOscar Brandstetter Verlag (historical), a German publisher Ihnen ja meine “korrigierte Korrektur” mit Zufügungen und Vorwort gesandt habe; also liegt alles bei Ihnen.

(05) So, wie Vorwort, Anfang und Ende jetzt ist, erscheint es mir gut und wirkungsvoll zu sein. Ein langes Vorwort meinerseits hätte den Dokument-Charakter des Buches gestört. Die Propaganda-Texte sind inzwischen auch bei Ihnen eingetroffen.
